其父在南京经营剧场,乔志良自幼便跟随孟燮卿学习京剧,在南庙小学时期的日子里,他就已经对戏曲艺术产生了浓厚的兴趣。父亲为了让他早日掌握戏曲技艺,又请来一位专业教师到家中授课。当乔志良年满十三岁时,他决定放弃学业,全身心投入到厉家班的戏曲学习中,开始了他的表演生涯。
抗日战争期间,乔志良随着师傅和同学们辗转四川、云南,一路上他们不断地演出,以传播民族文化为己任。在19岁那年,他满师归来,并加入了刘家班,这是他正式走进大舞台的一步。

In 1952, he participated in the Anhui Provincial Summer Art Troupe Training Class and became the deputy director of the troupe. The following year, he was transferred to the Anhui Provincial Huangmei Opera Theatre Company and took on the role of director while also responsible for teaching new performers basic skills.
Under his leadership, several classic plays were reimagined with modern twists. One notable example is "The Heavenly Match," where he co-directed with Li Liping and created an outstanding group dance for two key scenes: "The Magpie Bridge" and "Weaving Silk." He went on to direct numerous other plays such as "Announcing Grain Rations," "Lady Attendant," "Lu Sanjie," "Young Ones," and even a film adaptation of Beijing Opera's "Crossing the River First Boat."
In addition to his stage work, Jo Shih-liang also ventured into television productions. He served as a technical advisor for TV series like "Severe Winds at Nanjing" (严风扬帆). His dedication to preserving traditional Chinese arts has left a lasting impact on generations to come.
